(MOFA) - On 21 April 2020, responding to reporters’ queries about reports on the recent complex developments in the waters of some ASEAN member states, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang stated:

As a country in the East Sea and member of ASEAN, Viet Nam keeps a close watch on the situation in the East Sea.

Viet Nam sincerely hopes that lawful and legitimate rights and interests of each country as provided under UNCLOS 1982 are respected; parties concerned have responsibilities to comply with international law, UNCLOS 1982 and demonstrate their commitments to the development of the friendly relations between countries as well as to peace, stability, cooperation in the East Sea, the region and the world.
