(MOFA) - On 14 May 2020, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the question concerning the information that Viet Nam wishes to extend its ASEAN Chairmanship for another year to compensate for the period affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said:

At the moment, Viet Nam is focusing on fulfilling its ASEAN Chairmanship for 2020. Over the past months, despite the difficulties due to the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, Viet Nam has been well performing its role as the ASEAN Chair in promoting ASEAN solidarity, cohesiveness and responsiveness against the pandemic, and in sustaining the momentum for cooperation and the effective implementation of the priorities for 2020.

Within the ASEAN, there has not been any position calling for the extension of Viet Nam’s Chairmanship.
