Remarks by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam Le Thi Thu Hang regarding the reaction of Viet Nam to the release by the United States Department of State’s “Limits in the Seas” Study No. 150

On 14 January 2022, in response to the question about the reaction of Viet Nam to the release by the United States Department of State’s “Limits in the Seas” Study No. 150, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized:

“Viet Nam acknowledged the release of the “Limits in the Seas” Study No. 150 by the United States Department of State. Regarding the disputes in the East Sea, Viet Nam has affirmed on several occasions its consistent and clear position in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks. Accordingly, Viet Nam always objects to and never accepts any relevant claims that are not in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). On this occasion, Viet Nam once again requests relevant Parties to respect the sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction of Viet Nam in the East Sea, respect diplomatic and legal processes, and make positive and substantive contributions to maintaining peace and stability, safeguarding security, safety, freedom of navigation and overflight, and upholding the integrity of the UNCLOS and the rules-based order”./.
