On 23 January 2022, in response to the question regarding Viet Nam’s comment on the passing away of Master Thich Nhat Hanh, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that:

 Upon hearing the passing away of Master Thich Nhat Hanh, we offer our deepest condolences to the order, the community of Vietnamese Buddhists both domestic and international and fellow monks of Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

 Master Thich Nhat Hanh was an eminent monk of Vietnamese Buddhism for many years living overseas, having numerous contribution to the introduction and development of Buddhism and culture of Vietnam across the world. The passing of the Master is a loss for the Buddhist community in general and Vietnamese Buddhist community in particular.
