I- MAIN DIPLOMATIC ACTIVITIES IN THE 1st HALF OF JANUARY 2005

   (In chronological order)

 

OUTWARD VISITS

1. From 5th-6th January 2005, a delegation of the Government of Vietnam led by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai attended the Special ASEAN Summit on the effect of earthquake and tsunami in the Southeast and South Asia held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

2. From 6th-9th January 2005, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister, Chairman of the Border Committee under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vu Dzung attended the 14th annual meeting on the Vietnam-Laos Border held in Vientiane, Laos.

3.  From 11th-15th January 2005, at the invitation of Lao Information and Culture Minister Phandouangchit Vongsa, a delegation of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Vietnam led by Culture and Information Minister Pham Quang Nghi paid a working visit to Laos.

 

INWARD VISITS

 

1. On 7th January 2005, Lao Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Laos-Viet Nam Sub-committee Thongloun Sisoulith arrived in Vietnam to attend the 27th session of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-governmental Committee held in Hanoi.

 

2. From 9th-12th January 2005, at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Van An, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Italy Pier Ferdinando Casini paid an official friendship visit to Vietnam.

 

3. From 9th-13th January 2005, at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Van An, Chairman of the State Council of the Russian Federation’s Parliament Sergey Mironov paid an official visit to Vietnam.

 

4. From 9th-13th January 2005, at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Van An, Former Prime Minister of Japan, Honorary President of APPF, Y. Nakasone arrived in Vietnam to attend the 13th Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-13).

 

5. From 10th-13th January 2005, parliamentary delegations from 22 Asia Pacific’s countries arrived in Vietnam to participate in the 13th Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum held in Quang Ninh Province. They include:

1) Australian parliamentary delegation led by H.E Mr. David Hawker, Speaker of the House of Representatives,

2) Cambodian parliamentary delegation led by H.E. Mr. Norodom Ranariddh, President of the National Assembly,

3) Canadian parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Wilfert Bryon, Member of the Parliament

4) Chilean parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Mr. Andres Zaldivar, Senator,

 

5) Chinese parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Gu Xiulian, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress,

 

6) Fijian parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Ratu Epeli Nailatikan, President of the House of Representatives,

 

7) Indonesian parliamentary delegation led by H.E Agung Laksono, Speaker of the House of Representatives,

 

8) Japanese parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Shizuka Kamei, Senator,

 

9) Korean parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Mr. Kim Duk Kyu, Vice-President of the National Assembly,

 

10) Lao parliamentary delegation led by H.E.Mr. Samane Vignaket, President of the National Assembly,

 

11) Malaysian parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Abdul Hamid Pawanteh, Senate President,

 

12) Mexican parliamentary delegation led by Mrs. Dulce Maria Sauri Riancho, Senator,

 

13) Micronesian parliamentary delegation Hon. Isaac V. Figir, Senator,

 

14) Mongolian parliamentary delegation led by Hon. EnKhsaikhan Mendsaikhan, Member of the Parliament,

 

15) New Zealand parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Susan J.Kedgley, Member of the Parliament,

 

16) Papuan parliamentary delegation led by  Hon. Bob Danaya, Member of the Parliament,

 

17) Philippine parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Miriam Defensor Santiago, Senator,

 

18) Russian parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Dmitry Mezentsev, Vice-Chair of the State Council,

 

19) Singaporean parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Magad Ahmad, Member of the Parliament,

 

20) Thai parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Suchon Chaleekure, Senate President,

 

21) American parliamentary delegation led by Hon. Daniel Akaka, Senator,

 

22) Brunei parliamentary delegation led by Mr. Mohd Jusuf bin Pengiran Haji Abd Rahim, Member of the Parliament,

 

6. On 11th January 2005, Iranian Trade Minister  Mohammad Shariatmadari arrived in Vietnam to attend the 4th session of the Viet Nam-Iran Joint Committee on Economic and Commercial Cooperation held in Hanoi.

 

7. On 13th January 2005, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sok An arrived in Vietnam to participate in the Workshop on “Business and Investment Opportunity in Cambodia” held in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

8. From 14th –18th January 2005, at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Van An, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Gu Xiulian paid an official visit to Vietnam.
