Van Don economic zone set up

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has given nod to construction of the Van Don economic zone in northeastern Quang Ninh province and will issue regulations on its operation.

Under Decision No. 120/2007/QD-TTg signed by the PM on July 26, the economic zone will cover the whole Van Don district’s 2,170 sq.m, including a township and 11 communes with 600 islands in Bai Tu Long bay.

The Van Don EZ, together with a deep water port and Hon Mieu industrial zone in the neighbouring Hai Ha district and the Mong Cai border gate city, is part of a plan to develop Quang Ninh province’s northeastern region. The EZ will be developed into a marine ecotourism site with an international airport as well as a service and trade centre.

The 7-chapter and 31-article regulations on the operations of the zone specify that the government encourages and ensures the rights of individuals and organisations in all economic sectors including overseas Vietnamese and foreigners who invest in and run businesses in the Van Don EZ.

The regulations also stipulate the obligations of investors operating the zone.-(VNA)
