(VNA - 30/09/2011) - As part of his state visit to Malaysia, Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang received former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in Kuala Lumpur on Sept. 30.
Mahathir Mohamad spoke highly of Sang’s selection of Malaysia as one of the first countries to visit after he took office, and expressed his belief that the visit would be a success, making important contributions to bringing the bilateral relationship to a new height.

President Sang affirmed that Viet Nam attaches importance to the friendly and traditional relations with Malaysia.

The two sides noted with pleasure the fruitful development of the Viet Nam-Malaysia relationship, both bilaterally and multilaterally, and agreed to expand and deepen the relationship in the coming time.

They highly valued the two countries’ close cooperation and coordination at regional and international forums as well as promoting cooperation in building the ASEAN Community.

The two sides emphasised the need to maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, peacefully settle the disputes, abide by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, strictly implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and build a Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC).

The same day, President Sang called at the Quality Hero factory, where a large number of Vietnamese workers are working. He then visited the administrative city of Putrajaya.
