The 13th Regular Press Conference 2015

Hanoi, July 23rd 2015

I. ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai to visit Mozambique, South Africa and Angola
At the invitation of the leaders of the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Angola, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai will pay official visits to Mozambique from 29 – 31 July, to South Africa from 01 – 04 August, and to Angola from 05 – 08 August 2015.

The visits demonstrate the great importance that Viet Nam attaches to advancing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with these countries in particular and with the African region in general. During the visits, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai will discuss with leaders of the three countries practical measures to intensify cooperation in trade, agriculture, communication, oil and gas, construction, defense, labor, health, education and tourism. They will also discuss measures to promote cooperation between Ha Noi and Cape Town, Ha Noi and Luanda, and Da Nang and Benguela, as well as international issues of common interest.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai will also attend a number of events in celebration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Mozambique and Angola. He is expected to sign several cooperation agreements with the three countries in order to consolidate the legal framework for bilateral cooperation.

2. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh to co-chair 7th meeting of Viet Nam – Japan Cooperation Committee

At the invitation of Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will visit Japan to co-chair the 7th meeting of the Viet Nam – Japan Cooperation Committee in Tokyo from 29 – 31 July 2015.

At the meeting, the two sides will discuss concrete measures to promote, in a substantive and comprehensive manner, the “Extensive Strategic Partnership” in the areas of politics, diplomacy, security, defense, economy, trade, agriculture, culture, and education. The two sides will also discuss the implementation of agreements signed between Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe at the July 2015 Mekong – Japan Summit. This will offer an opportunity for Viet Nam and Japan to talk about international issues of mutual interest and increase coordination at regional and international forums.

3. Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luis Vieira to visit Viet Nam
At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luis Vieira will pay an official visit to Viet Nam on 26 - 27 July 2015.

The visit aims at discussing measures to foster bilateral relations in the framework of the Viet Nam - Brazil Comprehensive Partnership, especially in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, energy, and industry. Measures to enhance multilateral cooperation and regional and international issues of mutual interest will also be discussed.

II. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
The United States and Cuba have recently reopened their embassies. Responding to reporters’ request for comment on this event, MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh said:

“Viet Nam welcomes the decision by the United States and Cuba to reopen embassies in each other’s capital city. This is a concrete step toward a full normalization of bilateral ties in the interest of both peoples. It also contributes remarkably to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation in the region and beyond.”

Answering reporters’ questions regarding the adoption of Resolution 2231 (2015) by the Security Council, MOFA Spokesperson Le Hai Binh stated:

“Viet Nam welcomes the adoption of Resolution 2231 (2015) by the UN Security Council on 20 July 2015 on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme. We support the effective enforcement of this document in hope that it would contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.”
