1. Australian Ministe for Foreign Affairs Kevin Rudd to visit Viet Nam:
At the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem, the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Kevin Rudd will pay a working visit to Viet Nam on April 13th 2011. During the visit, Minister Rudd is expected to hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem and pay courtesy calls on Vietnamese leaders. The visit is aimed at strengthening and enhancing the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries as well as discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern. Minister Rudd will also attend the opening ceremony of RMIT’s new facility in Ho Chi Minh City.
2. Standing Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh to attend the Special Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on East Asian Summit (EAS) in Thailand
Standing Vice Minister Pham Binh Minh will lead the Vietnamese delegation to attend the meeting, held on April 10th and 11th in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting will discuss issues related to the East Asia Summit and issues of common concerns.
3. The 33rd Meeting of the Viet Nam - Laos Inter-governmental Committee
The 33rd of the Viet Nam – Laos Inter-governmental Committee will be held on April 8th and 9th in Ha Noi with the participation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Sinh Hung, Chairman of the Viet Nam – Laos Inter-governmental Sub-Committee and his Laotian counterpart Somsavad Lengsavad. The two sides will review the cooperation in various areas such as economics, culture, education, etc. during the 2001 – 2010 period and propose orientations and goals for cooperation for the 2011-2020 period. On this occasion, the two sides are expected to sign a number of agreements to strengthen the legal framework for bilateral cooperation in the economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological areas.
