Viet Nam, Laos agree on border demarcation
(VNA) - Viet Nam and Laos have completed the demarcation of their common borderline which is 2,000 km in length.
At one end is the Viet Nam-Laos - China border and at the opposite end is the Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia border.
The demarcation of the last section of the two countries' border, which is from marker U-6 to the Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia border, was discussed in Vientiane on Mar. 15 and 16.
Vietnamese officials led by Vu Dung, Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the Foreign Ministry's Border Department, and Lao officials headed by Phongsavat Boupha, Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of the Laos-Viet Nam Border Board participated in the discussion.
Also discussed was a draft treaty regarding the revisions to the starting point of the Viet Nam-Laos border, which helped complete the demarcation.
Vietnamese and Lao officials discussed the issues relating to the management over the border and agreed on coordinated steps for the organisation of celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the Viet Nam-Laos border demarcation treaty.
The celebrations will be part of a national programme to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties, as well as the 30th anniversary of the signing of the friendship and cooperation agreement between Viet Nam and Laos .
The two sides agreed to assign border experts to continue building a Viet Nam-Laos border of friendship, peace, stability, cooperation and long lasting development./.
